RETHINK WASTEWATER TREATMENT

Recovering hydrogen and Ammonia from wastewater TREATMENT

Retrofittable technology that treats wastewater to a VTR of over 5 kg COD/m /day.

3

Key features

Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) removed up to 66 %

Volumetric Treatment Rate (VTR) up to 5.76 kg COD/m /day

3

45% less energetic cost than Activated Sludge Treatment

Operates even at low temperatures (even at 8 C)

The problem

Wastewater treatment is an energy-intensive and costly process, with 60% of the energy used going on the aeration of activated sludge which is a 100 years old outdated process. Currently, only limited resources are recovered from wastewater (i.e. methane). There is a need for a sustainable and retrofittable technology to disrupt the status quo and extract the trapped energy of wastewater whilst providing cost savings to companies and operators.

14 years in the making. Tested and piloted in wastewater treatment plants.

Retrofittable cassette design that can slot in wastewater tanks.

Plug and Play installation that allows monitoring and real-time adaptation based on wastewater strengths.

"The only retrofittable and energy-saving wastewater treatment technology that recovers products of economic value from wastewater."

DEVELOPMENT STAGE & applications

The inventors have successfully piloted these reactors in up to 100L reactors, the results of which are published. Now the team is validating the results in a 3 m reactor located at a wastewater treatment plant in the North East of England. Possible applications include on-site treatment of wastewater for beverage manufacturing sites, remote wastewater treatment sites, and wastewater treatment sites that struggle with capacity and need bolt on solutions.

Commercialisation

We are at a pre-incorporation stage and are now keen to collaborate with partners to demonstrate this innovative technology.
